After Mumbai Man Dies Due To Wife’s Murder, His Mother Writes A Letter

Mumbai: Amid pressure on laws protecting men in marital disputes after the Atul Subhash case, another case of a man accusing his wife of suicide has been reported in Mumbai. A day after Nishant Tripathi ended his life at a hotel in Vili Parle, his mother penned a heartbreaking letter about her son’s death.

Women’s rights activist Neelam Chaturvedi has filed a case against her daughter Apoorva Parekh and granddaughter Prathana Mishra, who were named in her son’s suicide note. They have been accused of aiding and abetting the suicides, but police have not arrested anyone in connection with this.

“Today I feel like a living corpse,” she said in a short Facebook post after her son’s funeral.

“You see me as a living person, but the truth is I’m dead,” she says, noting that she has dedicated her life to women’s rights and gender equality since childhood.

Tripathi, who worked in the film industry, was found dead in his room at the Sahara Hotel last Friday, and police later recovered a suicide note blaming his wife and grandmother – uploaded to his company’s website and password protected.

Ms Chaturvedi said “her life is over now” because her son is no longer there.

“My son Nishant has left me again now. He was supposed to celebrate my last baby shower today on March 2 at Eko Moksha in Mumbai so that Prachi would feel hungry.

He also shared his professional journey with us. She said she was kidnapped at the age of 18 and that her career as an activist was marked by “countless battles, marches and fights for justice”.

“Through Saki Kendra and other channels, I have helped more than 46,000 victims of violence get justice for more than 37,000 women and provided employment and training opportunities to thousands of women to empower them,” she said.

But he said there was absolutely no pressure and he did not accumulate wealth, adding that he had raised his two children – son Nishant and daughter Prachi – alone, without complaining.

“I never complain to God – no matter what, my sons love me very much, but my son Nishant is my confidant, He is my inspiration who gives me the strength to live and work,” Ms Chaturvedi said.

Speaking about the actors and filmmakers who attended his funeral, he said that many considered him family, but he did not tell anyone that he was ending his life.

Tripathi, 41, committed suicide in his hotel room on February 28. He was found dead by hotel staff after locking the room with heavy keys after receiving no response. He said he got involved three days ago and put up a “do not disturb” sign outside before hanging himself from the tree.

In a letter posted on his company’s website, he expressed his love for his wife and blamed his wife and grandmother for her death.

“If you’re reading this, I won’t leave you in my last moments, I could have loved you with all my might.

He added: “My mother knows that among all the other battles I fought, you and Prathana Mausi were also responsible for my death.
